Riding Coach in the Disability Sector

South Auckland Riding for the Disabled, based in Drury, South Auckland, is seeking a dynamic Coach to join the busy team in a permanent, part time, paid position.  Working on Monday afternoons during school terms and part school holidays.

·       Help improve health and well-being outcomes for people experiencing disability.

·       Join the team to enable and support disabled people to achieve more meaningful lives.

·       Minimum requirement to hold, or be willing to attain, Level 3 NZQA Certificate in Equine (Therapeutic Riding Assistant Coach).

Fully funded, industry-recognised training will be provided to the successful candidate if required.

·       Join the friendly team led by a forward-thinking and proactive Committee providing strong governance and financial oversight.

·       Remuneration will be commensurate with skills and experience.

·       The role is varied and involves working closely with volunteers, the Operations Manager, Equine Team Leader, and Committee.  To take, after initial training, full responsibility to plan and run three rides, each Monday during school terms.

 

SKILLS REQUIRED

Coaching Skills

  • Experience teaching/coaching, preferably in a disability environment.

People and Leadership Skills

  • Strong people skills – the role involves working with a wide range of individuals.

  • Team player – able to work collaboratively as part of a small, close-knit team.

  • Effective communicator – communicates clearly and appropriately, using a variety of styles.

  • Leadership – able to lead by example and act as a positive role model.

  • Lateral thinker – able to think creatively and explore options when managing a variety of situations.

Equine Skills

  • Extensive equine background preferred.

Additional Skills

  • Understanding of a volunteer-based organisation.

  • Level 2 First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).

  • Understanding of Health and Safety requirements.

  • Strong administration skills, including computer literacy and organisational ability.

  • Ability to adhere to NZRDA policies and procedures.

  • Full driver’s licence and own transport.

  • Will be required to undertake a NZ Police Vet Check.

  • Must be eligible to work in New Zealand.
